Types of dreams can range from the after life to a near death experience to talks to the dead. Some nights, you may feel as if you were in a dream marathon, as you experience one after another with different themes. You awaken exhausted and depleted, unsure of the meaning of your dreams. Psychic dreams are very different. These snapshot visions of the future are so clear. The sense of reality is profound. Colors and sounds are illuminated. It's like you can touch, smell and hear all of the visions. Loved ones who have passed to The Other Side will make communication during a psychic dream. You can sense their presence, and the feeling is extraordinary. I've had many precognitive (warning) dreams. They are eerily precise, with incredible clarity. The events in my precognitive dreams are exactly what will eventually transpire in reality. In one dream, I envisioned my boyfriend dying and I had to identify his body at the hospital. My vision was an exact account of what happened in reality. How and why these psychic dreams take place are still a mystery. Psychic phenomenon is just that - phenomenal. Lifesaving dreams should be acknowledged. When your psyche talks, you must listen. The dream state produces an electrical brain impulse, transporting you into an altered state. It's the state a psychic is in while doing a psychic reading. Psychics are in another place and dimension when connecting with the afterlife. In a psychic dream, receiving information from the after life is like watching a movie, only you are the star. Predicting the future while you snooze can be done - easily. You must be open to it before going to sleep. This will unlock the door to The Other Side. And the messages will come. Also, keep a journal and refer to it. You'll be amazed at the pertinent information you'll obtain from your psychic dreams. I believe that all precognitive dreams arise to supply us with greater information and resources to better handle future events and choices. It seems that our survival mechanism and our psychic abilities are closely linked when sleep. There are no boundaries in an unconscious state. Space, time and life don't exist. Finally, no psychic dream is more emotionally compelling than a good-bye vision of the recently departed. I've experienced this personal. The finality gives you a sense of inexplicable loss. But, then I think to myself, I can have a psychic dream and the sense of reality, the snapshot vision, and the after life connection comforts me. As long as we can dream, we can communicate with the beyond. Interpreting Your Bad Dreams If you are having bad dreams, it is not necessarily an indication of a bad omen or similar problem. It is more likely that a bad dream is stimulated by digestive problems or medical conditions. As Freud says, sometimes “a cigar is a cigar” and, in other cases, the nightmares that you face in your dreams are very real. Most bad dreams are triggered by fears of one type or another. Also, the symbolism in one bad dream can sometimes mean the opposite. For instance, if you dream of someone dying, it might actually mean they are going to recover from an illness. The same thing goes for falling dreams, which is another dream common to all. Of course, there are some bad dreams that are prophetic. These dreams foresee a death or other problem. However, you can never be completely sure of the accuracy of these dreams. If you do have a really bad dream and can’t seem to get it off of your mind, then you might want to consult a psychic who specializes in dream interpretation. Yet another option is to consult one of the many dream dictionaries that are online, including here on SpiritNow.com. Not everything is based on psychic interpretation. It is also very possible to have a bad dream about something in your life that makes you very anxious. This anxiety turns up in your dreams as a symbol of that anxiety. _ If you have a new dream and it is especially bad or if it is repetitive, you need to realize that it usually symbolizes some kind of unresolved issue – either in real life or in your subconscious mind. Sometimes you can be trained in the art of how to dream lucidly so that you are more aware of what stage in your dreaming that you become so terrified. One way to get over the terror of dreaming so that you don’t have the nightmare stay with you all day and ruin your mood is to think of them as dream movies. Think of the nightmare as a series of dream pictures that you would not ever pay to go see again or picture the dream moods as individual television channels. Tell yourself next time you have a bad dream that you will change the channel. Donna West is a professional writer and researcher on psychics and astrology. Common Dreams There are several different types of common dreams that are shared by everyone. Here is a rundown of the most common ones. Fear of being caught naked is a common dream. In this type of dream, you are usually caught walking around in a public place like a mall wearing no clothes. In extreme versions of this type of dream, you are onstage. Low self esteem triggers the insecurity symbolizes in these dreams. Being naked in a dream is about feeling vulnerable, laughed at, or humiliated unless it is a sexual dream in which case it may be more about a desire to have sex or a desire to have a lover appreciate your body. Nudity can also symbolize being caught in a lie or off guard. Another very common dream is the chase dream. If you dream about being chased, it can mean that your problems are really building up in your real life. It can symbolize evasive behavior on your part. You may have trouble dealing with a problem. One key to understanding these dreams is to identify whoever it is that is pursuing you in the dream. In terms of dream movies, these ones can have a flair to them that is as exciting as attending an adventure film. Another common dream game with the subconscious is the dream that your teeth is falling out. Of course, reality usually wins in this case. Your teeth aren’t really falling out. Common dream scenarios include having your teeth crumbling in your hands or your teeth falling out one by one when you touch them lightly. This is a dream about losing the foundation of your beliefs. Your teeth crumble because you believe that your life is crumbling in real life. Loss of teeth can also mean sexual insecurity in a dream as smiling is used so much in flirting. It can mean fear of getting old or impotence. Sometimes dream pictures actually reveal who it is you are afraid of being humiliated in front of. Your teeth fall out in front of that person in the dream. Yet another common dream is the one that you are falling. Falling dreams are significant as they can indicate ill health. They also can symbolize a loss of control over situation in your life. According to Freud, a falling dream can also symbolize giving in to a sexual urge.Failing a test is also a very common dream. Experience the fear of not being accepted, not being prepared, or not being good enough. Dreams of this nature are an indication that you are being judged. When practicing dream interpretation, it is important to remember that not all dreams mean the same thing for each individual even if the symbol is the same. The main thing that you need to remember is that one should never neglect the importance of your own personal history, which often figures heavily into these dreams. (www.parade.com) from about.com Holistic healing means taking an holistic approach when seeking treatment for imbalances and choosing to live a more balanced lifestyle. What primarily distinguishes holistic healing apart from alternative medicine, complementary medicine, and integrative medicine is that physical health is not necessarily the main focus. Even so, it is often the experience of physical discomfort that will first prompt a person's pursuit of holistic healing. It is true that our pains and other physical discomforts demand our attention. This is where the saying "sticking out like a sore thumb'" originated from. It is difficult to ignore the obvious when we are physically hurting. Common sense tells us that we should seek help to alleviate our discomforts. Holistic healing is not an "alternative" to conventional medical care. Sometimes going to a medical professional is the best solution to addressing a dis-ease. Physical illnesses are the symptoms of a greater imbalance that may or may not have a root cause in the physical. Holistic or "wholistic" healing addresses all parts of the individual, not just the physical aspect of a person where manifested illnesses are most apparent. Holistic healing is not intended to serve as a band-aid or a one time fix. It is an ongoing journey of discovery in search of more answers and ultimately; living better, being healthier, and striving for wholeness. Holistic Healing Goes Beyond the Mind-Body Connection: Holistic healing is really a lifestyle approach. The holistic approach goes far beyond the Mind-Body connection of finding and maintaining wellness. Overall wellness AND "wholeness" is highly valued. All parts of a person's life (physical healing, mental health and wellness, emotional well-being, and spiritual beliefs and values) are considered. Taking a holistic approach involves seeking the tools that will help us attract our desires and find personal power. A person who embraces the desire to find wholeness within his own being soon learns the importance of tending to relationships, caring for the planet and our environments, having compassion for humankind in general, and accepting and tolerating differences among a diverse population of people. Show Topics: Thanksgiving 2008 on November 27. Thanksgiving Fun Facts from History.com Over the Years -Though many competing claims exist, the most familiar story of the first Thanksgiving took place in Plymouth Colony, in present-day Massachusetts, in 1621. More than 200 years later, President Abraham Lincoln declared the final Thursday in November as a national day of thanksgiving. Congress finally made Thanksgiving Day an official national holiday in 1941. Sarah Josepha Hale, the enormously influential magazine editor and author who waged a tireless campaign to make Thanksgiving a national holiday in the mid-19th century, was also the author of the classic nursery rhyme "Mary Had a Little Lamb." In 2001, the U.S. Postal Service issued a commemorative Thanksgiving stamp. Designed by the artist Margaret Cusack in a style resembling traditional folk-art needlework, it depicted a cornucopia overflowing with fruits and vegetables, under the phrase "We Give Thanks." On the Roads -Despite record-high gas prices (more than $3.00 per gallon) in 2007, the American Automobile Association (AAA) estimated that 38.7 million Americans would travel 50 miles or more from home for the Thanksgiving holiday, a slight increase (1.5 percent) over the previous year. Of those Americans traveling for Thanksgiving in 2007, approximately 80 percent (31.2 million) were expected to go by motor vehicle, 12.1 percent (4.7 million) by airplane and the rest (2.8 million) by train, bus or other mode of transportation. On the Table -According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Minnesota is the top turkey-producing state in America, with a planned production total of 49 million in 2008. Just six states—Minnesota, North Carolina, Arkansas, Virginia, Missouri and Indiana—will probably produce two-thirds of the estimated 271 million birds that will be raised in the U.S. this year. The National Turkey Federation estimated that 46 million turkeys—one fifth of the annual total of 235 million consumed in the United States in 2007—were eaten at Thanksgiving. In a survey conducted by the National Turkey Federation, nearly 88 percent of Americans said they eat turkey at Thanksgiving. The average weight of turkeys purchased for Thanksgiving is 15 pounds, which means some 690 million pounds of turkey were consumed in the U.S. during Thanksgiving in 2007. The cranberry is one of only three fruits—the others are the blueberry and the Concord grape—that are entirely native to North American soil, according to the Cape Cod Cranberry Growers' Association. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the largest pumpkin pie ever baked weighed 2,020 pounds and measured just over 12 feet long. It was baked on October 8, 2005 by the New Bremen Giant Pumpkin Growers in Ohio, and included 900 pounds of pumpkin, 62 gallons of evaporated milk, 155 dozen eggs, 300 pounds of sugar, 3.5 pounds of salt, 7 pounds of cinnamon, 2 pounds of pumpkin spice and 250 pounds of crust. Around the Country -Three towns in the U.S. take their name from the traditional Thanksgiving bird, including Turkey, Texas (pop. 465); Turkey Creek, Louisiana (pop. 363); and Turkey, North Carolina (pop. 270). Originally known as Macy's Christmas Parade—to signify the launch of the Christmas shopping season—the first Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade took place in New York City in 1924. It was launched by Macy's employees and featured animals from the Central Park Zoo. Today, some 3 million people attend the annual parade and another 44 million watch it on television. Tony Sarg, a children's book illustrator and puppeteer, designed the first giant hot air balloons for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1927. He later created the elaborate mechanically animated window displays that grace the façade of the New York store from Thanksgiving to Christmas. Snoopy has appeared as a giant balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade more times than any other character in history. As the Flying Ace, Snoopy made his sixth appearance in the 2006 parade. The first National Football League game held on Thanksgiving Day was in 1934, when the Detroit Lions played the Chicago Bears at the University of Detroit stadium, in front of 26,000 fans. The NBC radio network broadcast the game on 94 stations across the country. Since that time, the Lions have played a game every Thanksgiving (except between 1939 and 1944); in 1956, fans watched the game on television for the first time. First Thanksgiving from History.com - In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast which is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. This harvest meal has become a symbol of cooperation and interaction between English colonists and Native Americans. Although this feast is considered by many to the very first Thanksgiving celebration, it was actually in keeping with a long tradition of celebrating the harvest and giving thanks for a successful bounty of crops. Native American groups throughout the Americas, including the Pueblo, Cherokee, Creek and many others organized harvest festivals, ceremonial dances, and other celebrations of thanks for centuries before the arrival of Europeans in North America. Historians have also recorded other ceremonies of thanks among European settlers in North America, including British colonists in Berkeley Plantation, Virginia. At this site near the Charles River in December of 1619, a group of British settlers led by Captain John Woodlief knelt in prayer and pledged "Thanksgiving" to God for their healthy arrival after a long voyage across the Atlantic. This event has been acknowledged by some scholars and writers as the official first Thanksgiving among European settlers on record. Whether at Plymouth, Berkeley Plantation, or throughout the Americas, celebrations of thanks have held great meaning and importance over time. The legacy of thanks, and particularly of the feast, have survived the centuries as people throughout the United States gather family, friends, and enormous amounts of food for their yearly Thanksgiving meal. What Was Actually on the Menu? -What foods topped the table at the first harvest feast? Historians aren't completely certain about the full bounty, but it's safe to say the pilgrims weren't gobbling up pumpkin pie or playing with their mashed potatoes. Following is a list of the foods that were available to the colonists at the time of the 1621 feast. However, the only two items that historians know for sure were on the menu are venison and wild fowl, which are mentioned in primary sources. The most detailed description of the "First Thanksgiving" comes from Edward Winslow from A Journal of the Pilgrims at Plymouth, in 1621:"Our harvest being gotten in, our governor sent four men on fowling, that so we might after a special manner rejoice together after we had gathered the fruit of our labors. They four in one day killed as much fowl as, with a little help beside, served the company almost a week. At which time, among other recreations, we exercised our arms, many of the Indians coming amongst us, and among the rest their greatest king Massasoit, with some ninety men, whom for three days we entertained and feasted, and they went out and killed five deer, which they brought to the plantation and bestowed upon our governor, and upon the captain, and others. And although it be not always so plentiful as it was at this time with us, yet by the goodness of God, we are so far from want that we often wish you partakers of our plenty." Did you know that lobster, seal and swans were on the Pilgrims' menu? -Seventeenth Century Table Manners:The pilgrims didn't use forks; they ate with spoons, knives, and their fingers. They wiped their hands on large cloth napkins which they also used to pick up hot morsels of food. Salt would have been on the table at the harvest feast, and people would have sprinkled it on their food. Pepper, however, was something that they used for cooking but wasn't available on the table. In the seventeenth century, a person's social standing determined what he or she ate. The best food was placed next to the most important people. People didn't tend to sample everything that was on the table (as we do today), they just ate what was closest to them. Serving in the seventeenth century was very different from serving today. People weren't served their meals individually. Foods were served onto the table and then people took the food from the table and ate it. All the servers had to do was move the food from the place where it was cooked onto the table. Pilgrims didn't eat in courses as we do today. All of the different types of foods were placed on the table at the same time and people ate in any order they chose. Sometimes there were two courses, but each of them would contain both meat dishes, puddings, and sweets. More Meat, Less Vegetables -Our modern Thanksgiving repast is centered around the turkey, but that certainly wasn't the case at the pilgrims's feasts. Their meals included many different meats. Vegetable dishes, one of the main components of our modern celebration, didn't really play a large part in the feast mentality of the seventeenth century. Depending on the time of year, many vegetables weren't available to the colonists. The pilgrims probably didn't have pies or anything sweet at the harvest feast. They had brought some sugar with them on the Mayflower but by the time of the feast, the supply had dwindled. Also, they didn't have an oven so pies and cakes and breads were not possible at all. The food that was eaten at the harvest feast would have seemed fatty by 1990's standards, but it was probably more healthy for the pilgrims than it would be for people today. The colonists were more active and needed more protein. Heart attack was the least of their worries. They were more concerned about the plague and pox. Surprisingly Spicy Cooking -People tend to think of English food at bland, but, in fact, the pilgrims used many spices, including cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, pepper, and dried fruit, in sauces for meats. In the seventeenth century, cooks did not use proportions or talk about teaspoons and tablespoons. Instead, they just improvised. The best way to cook things in the seventeenth century was to roast them. Among the pilgrims, someone was assigned to sit for hours at a time and turn the spit to make sure the meat was evenly done. Since the pilgrims and Wampanoag Indians had no refrigeration in the seventeenth century, they tended to dry a lot of their foods to preserve them. They dried Indian corn, hams, fish, and herbs. Dinner for Breakfast: Pilgrim Meals: -The biggest meal of the day for the colonists was eaten at noon and it was called noonmeat or dinner. The housewives would spend part of their morning cooking that meal. Supper was a smaller meal that they had at the end of the day. Breakfast tended to be leftovers from the previous day's noonmeat. In a pilgrim household, the adults sat down to eat and the children and servants waited on them. The foods that the colonists and Wampanoag Indians ate were very similar, but their eating patterns were different. While the colonists had set eating patterns—breakfast, dinner, and supper—the Wampanoags tended to eat when they were hungry and to have pots cooking throughout the day. Mayflower Myths from History.com "The reason that we have so many myths associated with Thanksgiving is that it is an invented tradition. It doesn't originate in any one event. It is based on the New England puritan Thanksgiving, which is a religious Thanksgiving, and the traditional harvest celebrations of England and New England and maybe other ideas like commemorating the pilgrims. All of these have been gathered together and transformed into something different from the original parts." – James W. Baker Senior Historian at Plimoth Plantation Myth: The first Thanksgiving was in 1621 and the pilgrims celebrated it every year thereafter. Fact: The first feast wasn't repeated, so it wasn't the beginning of a tradition. In fact, the colonists didn't even call the day Thanksgiving. To them, a thanksgiving was a religious holiday in which they would go to church and thank God for a specific event, such as the winning of a battle. On such a religious day, the types of recreational activities that the pilgrims and Wampanoag Indians participated in during the 1621 harvest feast--dancing, singing secular songs, playing games--wouldn't have been allowed. The feast was a secular celebration, so it never would have been considered a thanksgiving in the pilgrims minds. Myth: The original Thanksgiving feast took place on the fourth Thursday of November. Fact: The original feast in 1621 occurred sometime between September 21 and November 11. Unlike our modern holiday, it was three days long. The event was based on English harvest festivals, which traditionally occurred around the 29th of September. After that first harvest was completed by the Plymouth colonists, Gov. William Bradford proclaimed a day of thanksgiving and prayer, shared by all the colonists and neighboring Indians. In 1623 a day of fasting and prayer during a period of drought was changed to one of thanksgiving because the rain came during the prayers. Gradually the custom prevailed in New England of annually celebrating thanksgiving after the harvest. During the American Revolution a yearly day of national thanksgiving was suggested by the Continental Congress. In 1817 New York State adopted Thanksgiving Day as an annual custom, and by the middle of the 19th century many other states had done the same. In 1863 President Abraham Lincoln appointed a day of thanksgiving as the last Thursday in November, which he may have correlated it with the November 21, 1621, anchoring of the Mayflower at Cape Cod. Since then, each president has issued a Thanksgiving Day proclamation. President Franklin D. Roosevelt set the date for Thanksgiving to the fourth Thursday of November in 1939 (approved by Congress in 1941) Myth: The pilgrims wore only black and white clothing. They had buckles on their hats, garments, and shoes. Fact: Buckles did not come into fashion until later in the seventeenth century and black and white were commonly worn only on Sunday and formal occasions. Women typically dressed in red, earthy green, brown, blue, violet, and gray, while men wore clothing in white, beige, black, earthy green, and brown. Myth: The pilgrims brought furniture with them on the Mayflower. Fact: The only furniture that the pilgrims brought on the Mayflower was chests and boxes. They constructed wooden furniture once they settled in Plymouth. Myth: The Mayflower was headed for Virginia, but due to a navigational mistake it ended up in Cape Cod Massachusetts. Fact: The Pilgrims were in fact planning to settle in Virginia, but not the modern-day state of Virginia. They were part of the Virginia Company, which had the rights to most of the eastern seaboard of the U.S. The pilgrims had intended to go to the Hudson River region in New York State, which would have been considered "Northern Virginia," but they landed in Cape Cod instead. Treacherous seas prevented them from venturing further south. *********************************************************************************************** Holistic Healing: More Segments on X-Factor and Youtube. Spiritual and Paranormal Experiences Episode Eighteen - Halloween Introduction of hosts An opening prayer Thank you: Cablevision of Litchfield - Community Programming Cable 5. Web Site: www.cbezio.com - All New and updated includes link to youtube channel and podcast site. Show Topics: Halloween From History.com The American tradition of "trick-or-treating" probably dates back to the early All Souls' Day parades in England. During the festivities, poor citizens would beg for food and families would give them pastries called "soul cakes" in return for their promise to pray for the family's dead relatives. The distribution of soul cakes was encouraged by the church as a way to replace the ancient practice of leaving food and wine for roaming spirits. The practice, which was referred to as "going a-souling" was eventually taken up by children who would visit the houses in their neighborhood and be given ale, food, and money. The tradition of dressing in costume for Halloween has both European and Celtic roots. Hundreds of years ago, winter was an uncertain and frightening time. Food supplies often ran low and, for the many people afraid of the dark, the short days of winter were full of constant worry. On Halloween, when it was believed that ghosts came back to the earthly world, people thought that they would encounter ghosts if they left their homes. To avoid being recognized by these ghosts, people would wear masks when they left their homes after dark so that the ghosts would mistake them for fellow spirits. On Halloween, to keep ghosts away from their houses, people would place bowls of food outside their homes to appease the ghosts and prevent them from attempting to enter. Pumpkin carving is a popular part of modern America's Halloween celebration. Come October, pumpkins can be found everywhere in the country from doorsteps to dinner tables. Despite the widespread carving that goes on in this country every autumn, few Americans really know why or when the jack o'lantern tradition began. Or, for that matter, whether the pumpkin is a fruit or a vegetable. People have been making jack o'lanterns at Halloween for centuries. The practice originated from an Irish myth about a man nicknamed "Stingy Jack." According to the story, Stingy Jack invited the Devil to have a drink with him. True to his name, Stingy Jack didn't want to pay for his drink, so he convinced the Devil to turn himself into a coin that Jack could use to buy their drinks. Once the Devil did so, Jack decided to keep the money and put it into his pocket next to a silver cross, which prevented the Devil from changing back into his original form. Jack eventually freed the Devil, under the condition that he would not bother Jack for one year and that, should Jack die, he would not claim his soul. The next year, Jack again tricked the Devil into climbing into a tree to pick a piece of fruit. While he was up in the tree, Jack carved a sign of the cross into the tree's bark so that the Devil could not come down until the Devil promised Jack not to bother him for ten more years. Soon after, Jack died. As the legend goes, God would not allow such an unsavory figure into heaven. The Devil, upset by the trick Jack had played on him and keeping his word not to claim his soul, would not allow Jack into hell. He sent Jack off into the dark night with only a burning coal to light his way. Jack put the coal into a carved-out turnip and has been roaming the Earth with ever since. The Irish began to refer to this ghostly figure as "Jack of the Lantern," and then, simply "Jack O'Lantern." In Ireland and Scotland, people began to make their own versions of Jack's lanterns by carving scary faces into turnips or potatoes and placing them into windows or near doors to frighten away Stingy Jack and other wandering evil spirits. In England, large beets are used. Immigrants from these countries brought the jack o'lantern tradition with them when they came to the United States. They soon found that pumpkins, a fruit native to America, make perfect jack o'lanterns. Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Pumpkins But Were Afraid To Ask... - Pumpkins are fruits. A pumpkin is a type of squash and is a member of the gourd family (Cucurbitacae), which also includes squash, cucumbers, gherkins, and melons. - The largest pumpkin pie ever baked was in 2005 and weighed 2,020 pounds. - Pumpkins have been grown in North America for five thousand years. They are indigenous to the western hemisphere. - In 1584, after French explorer Jacques Cartier explored the St. Lawrence region of North America, he reported finding "gros melons." The name was translated into English as "pompions," which has since evolved into the modern "pumpkin." - Pumpkins are low in calories, fat, and sodium and high in fiber. They are good sources of Vitamin A, Vitamin B, potassium, protein, and iron. - The largest pumpkin ever grown was 1,689 pounds. It was grown by Joe Jutras of North Scituate, Rhode Island. - Pumpkin seeds should be planted between the last week of May and the middle of June. They take between 90 and 120 days to grow and are picked in October when they are bright orange in color. Their seeds can be saved to grow new pumpkins the next year. Monster Mash Halloween Monster Facts from http://www.associatedcontent.com Werewolf 1. Werewolf legends exist in most of the world's cultures. Some of the tales date back to the beginning of written history. One of the earliest examples is the story of King Lycaon of Greece. 2. Lycanthropy is the supernatural condition whereby a human transforms into a wolf. If an afflicted person transforms into another type of animal, the correct term for their condition is therianthropy. 3. Historically, werewolf legends have been used to explain the acts of serial killers. Rabies, schizophrenia, porphyria, and hypertrichosis (a medical condition that causes excessive hair growth) have also been mistaken for lycanthropy. 4. Werewolves can be created in a variety of ways. Some say that lycanthropy is a curse or divine punishment. Others say it is the result of deals with dark forces. Still others suggest that werewolves can be born naturally, contract lycanthropy through the bite of another werewolf. 5. How can you spot a werewolf? The symptoms vary widely, according to the source. Some interesting signs from folklore and popular film and literature include: uncontrollable rage; insomnia; a hairline that forms a widow's peak; hair or magical marks on the palms of the hands; eyebrows that meet in the middle; an unnatural fear of water; excessive body hair; unusually compelling eyes; longer-than-average third fingers on each hand. Clinical Lycanthropy is a real psychological condition in which a person believes their body changes into a wolf or other creature. 6. Peter Stubb was known as the Werewolf of Bedburg. In 1573, he was accused of killing several people, including his own son, before he was sentenced to death. Stubb claimed that his powers were granted by the devil, which transformed Stubb into a monstrous wolf. Other "werewolf" killers of the time included Pernette Gandillon and Jean Grenier. 7. In 1764, the Beast of Gevaudan terrorized a small town in southern France. The Beast killed between 60 and 100 people, but its true identity was never proven. Some believed that the Beast was a ravaging werewolf. Not all werewolves are bad guys. In 1692, in Jurgenburg, Livonia, a man known as Thiess testified under oath that werewolves were the "Hounds of God". He claimed that werewolves battled against evil forces. 8. Werewolf movies commonly link lycanthropy with the onset of puberty, as both conditions commonly involve hair growth, mood swings, and strong impulses. 9. The first movie to feature lycanthropy was "The Werewolf", a twenty minute silent film from 1913. The top grossing domestic werewolf film is 1994's "Wolf", starring Jack Nicholson and Michelle Pfeiffer. 10. The bands Metallica, Genesis, and Jefferson Airplane have recorded songs about werewolves. Vampire 1. Was the first vampire a woman? The oldest known vampire legends come from Babylonian and Sumerian mythology. Female demons called the Lilu were said to hunt women and children at night, and drink their blood. 2. Vlad III Tepes, also known as Vlad Dracul, was known for his incredible cruelty; he was alleged to have killed up to 30,000 people at one time! His bloodthirsty reputation inspired Bram Stoker's Dracula. 3. The National Retail Federation listed "Vampire" as the second most popular adult Halloween costume in 2005. Vampires were the sixteenth most popular children's costume for the same year. 4. While modern pop culture usually portrays vampires as sensual and romantic, other countries don't see them that way: the Ghanan Asasabonsam vampire has iron teeth and hooks for feet - which they drop from treetops onto unsuspecting victims. 5. Some believe that Cain was the first vampire, cursed by God for slaying his brother, Abel. This theory is frequently found in popular films and games. 6. Stakes, fire and sunlight aren't the only ways to kill a vampire. Other cultures recommend beheading a vampire, boiling it in vinegar, pounding a nail through its navel. 7. According to popular tradition, vampires can shape-shift into bats, or clouds of mist. 8. The medical condition porphyria has been blamed for many reports of vampirism. Its victims develop pale skin, sensitivity to sunlight, receding gums which make their teeth appear larger, and severe anemia - the cure for which, in ages past, might have included drinking animals' blood. 9. In the 17th Century, Countess Bathory of Hungary was said to bathe in human blood in order to preserve her beauty. Some even accused her of vampirism. 10. Vampire bats were named after vampires, not vice-versa. Frankinstien 1. Mary Godwin, later wed to poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, wrote Frankenstein at the age of nineteen. As a houseguest of Lord Byron, Mary Shelley was invited to participate in a challenge. Byron, Shelley, and the other guests set about writing the most frightening story they could. Shelley won; she claimed that her inspiration came from a vision she'd had, wherein a pale student of science knelt over a body which he had just imbued with artificial life. 2. Doctor Victor Frankenstein is the name of the mad scientist character who created the monster and gave it life. 3. Frankenstein is a German name meaning, "stone of the Franks". 4. Victor Frankenstein was based on a real person: Johann Konrad Dippel, who was a physician and mad scientist obsessed with creating life through scientific means. His birthplace? Castle Frankenstein, near Darmstadt, Germany. 5. The name Frankenstein is commonly, but incorrectly, used to describe the monster itself. Throughout the novel, Dr. Frankenstein refers to his creation as "devil", "fiend", and other venomous epithets - but the creature is never given a proper name. 6. Frankenstein was released anonymously in 1818, and was originally sub-titled: The Modern Prometheus. Both Frankenstein and the Prometheus tale serve as warnings against too-high aspirations. 7. The Frankenstein monster first appeared on film in Edison Studios' Frankenstein of 1910. 8. Universal Studios' Frankenstein was released in 1931. Actor Boris Karloff played the role of the creature. Bela Lugosi was initially offered the role, but refused. Bela Lugosi played Dracula in 1931. 9. The Frankenstein monster makes a modern screen appearance in 1994's Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, where he is portrayed by Robert De Niro. The monster is also featured in 2004's Van Helsing. 10. Herman Munster, cosmetically based on Frankenstein's monster, was the father of a nice, if creepy, family in the television series The Munsters. Mummy 1. According to Egyptologist Salima Ikram, the word mummy comes from the Arabic word for bitumen: mumya. Over time, the word mumya evolved into the name we recognize today: mummy. 2. It is believed that the ancient Egyptians began to mummify their dead as early as 2500 B.C. - but the Chinchorros of South America did it first. The Egyptians believed that the dead could enjoy earthly pleasures in the afterlife. For this reason, many mummies were entombed with treasures, food, and even loyal servants. 3. The jackal-headed deity Anubis was considered to be the god of mummification and embalming. 4. In ancient times, up to seventy days could pass between an individual's death and their entombment. Forty days was the average amount of time necessary for the dehydration and embalming of the body. All of a mummy's major internal organs were removed and placed in canopic jars - except for the heart, which was thought to be the center of intelligence. 5. Not all mummies were human. Archaeologists have discovered the mummified remains of jackals, baboons, horses, and even a lion! 6. Unwrapping mummies was a popular, if distasteful, pastime in the Victorian era. Hosts would purchase a mummy for the purpose of unwrapping, then throw parties at which the unwrapping served as the evening's entertainment. 7. Countless mummies were also ground into medicinal powders, or even burned as firewood in areas of Egypt where trees were scarce. 8. When conditions are right, "natural" mummies can be created through a combination of dryness and extreme temperatures. Both natural and artificial mummies have been found in locations as varied as South America, the Swiss Alps, Central Asia, and Alaska. 9. King Tut's tomb was discovered in 1923. Lord Carnarvon, financier of the expedition, died of an infected mosquito bite and pneumonia within weeks of entering Tut's burial chamber. This event is believed to have inspired legends of vengeful mummies and cursed tombs. 10. A recently identified mummy was revealed to be Hatshepsut, one of the most famous female pharaohs. Paranormal Report: 6 notorious prisons offer ghostly thrills Dank fortresses popular with ghost hunters put on shows for Halloween The Associated Press updated 12:52 p.m. ET, Fri., Oct. 10, 2008 Looking for ghostly thrills this Halloween? Head straight to prison. Old closed prisons are often crumbling, dank fortresses with histories of flying orbs, moving furniture, noises in the night and chilly bursts of air. They draw serious-minded paranormal explorers who blame ghosts of mistreated inmates looking for a way out, or those of prison personnel killed in escapes or riots. The Ohio State Reformatory at Mansfield in north-central Ohio has it all and flaunts it in its Halloween "Prison of the Evil Dead" haunted house experience through Nov. 1. Children under 13 are forbidden. The prison, with a soaring six-tier cell block, was used for the film "The Shawshank Redemption" and other productions. It first opened in 1910 and wasn't completely closed until 1990. The Halloween presentation, offered late at night like most, includes actors, animatronics and other special effects. Nothing special is planned for Halloween at the notorious, fog-shrouded Alcatraz prison on the "Rock" in San Francisco Bay, but national park rangers who accompany regular night tours often take small groups into rooms not seen during the day, including the cafeteria, hospital and basement. Opened as a federal prison in 1934 and closed in 1963, some inmates went crazy at Alcatraz, and the place has its share of mysterious clanging and screaming reported in areas once used for punishment. Famous residents included gangster Al Capone. Round-trip ferry service and an award-winning cell house audio presentation included. In downtown Philadelphia, there's "Terror Behind the Walls" through Nov. 2 at the massive Eastern State Penitentiary, where ghost sightings date to the 1940s. Abandoned in 1971, the prison is a hot spot for ghost hunters. The Halloween presentation is not for the easily shaken, with children under 7 barred and kids 7-12 steered to family nights, when they can scream "Monster be good!" — and they will. Not exactly a prison, the Waverly Hills Sanatorium atop a hill in Louisville, Ky., is now a walkthrough museum with a Halloween haunted house that plays up a ghostly past through Nov. 1. Opened in 1910, the sanatorium has an underground "death tunnel" used to discreetly remove bodies without destroying the morale of patients. Reported apparitions include shadowy childlike images on a rooftop deck where the stricken young once played. At the Burlington County Prison Museum in historic Mount Holly, N.J., a Halloween show dubbed simply "The Prison" begins Oct. 17 and runs through Nov. 1. The prison was in operation for more than a century, closing in 1965. It had its own gallows and housed the Boston Strangler, Albert DeSalvo. Reports of moaning and electromagnetic spikes in its dungeon are numerous. Some visitors report the sensation of being watched and darting, dark human forms on the first floor. The ghost of Joel Clough, who killed a girlfriend and was chained naked to the floor of the death cell after an escape attempt, is the suspected culprit of lots of ghostly activity. Riots, escapes, executions, fires. The imposing former West Virginia State Penitentiary in Moundsville tallied many dead prisoners from 1876 through 1995 and has drawn a hefty share of paranormal investigators to the chapel, shower cages and death row. For Halloween, it offers a "Dungeon of Horrors" through Nov. 1, promising an introduction to "one of the scariest places behind bars!" Separate, regular night tours let you lock yourself in until 6 a.m. Copyright 2008 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. Analyzer This Theme is not only difficult on the entity having it, but also on those around them. The Analyzer is usually a brilliant person, but usually no one understands this, because in their constant questioning and haranguing any subject, they can seem less than smart. They are driven by the fever of not only wanting to know everything, but how it works, why, and what use it is. They want most things repeated or re-read or re-enacted, so that they have picked apart every aspect. We learn from the Analyzer, because even in the smallest things, we can observe the dissection of it even to infinitesimal parts. Analyzers are afraid they will miss something or it will be overlooked and many times even that they will forget it if not analyzed. This can lead to obsessiveness and even a scrupulous conscience. It works well in science and technical fields but is very hard on the individual in everyday life. To help them modify this Theme, these entities should force themselves to believe their eyes, ears, and touch, and not read something into everything that is there. After all, when every petal is picked off the rose, just an ugly stem is left. To analyze people's behavior quietly and ask for enlightenment also increases psychic ability. Humanitarian The Theme of Humanitarian seems self-explanatory, but it also has more complex and farreaching effects. The entity that carries this Theme is truly driven and self-sacrificing for all humanity, so much so, that they have to guard against loving too much and doing too much. There is no thought for self, which also has to be guarded against. They not only need to administer to, but take up issues that mankind has struggled with. The Cause Fighter may be militant about the wrongs committed against mankind, but the Humanitarian will be right in the midst bandaging, teaching, holding, building, and on and on it goes. They do not really see that much evil in anything and will usually excuse mankind for most of its faults. The Humanitarian Theme carries with it a true and often times insatiable love for all people. They have to be in front, in the middle, or behind large groups of mankind. The Humanitarian can never be someone who just cares for family and friends but everyone or anyone who comes into their circle. The Humanitarian would do well also to modify this by saving time to love themselves. Otherwise, they can burn themselves out and then are of no use to anyone. Healer The Theme of Healer is a very metaphysical Theme, as well as a very spiritual Theme. Healers are compelled to go into medicine, physical therapy, holistic medicine, hospices, ministries, etc. Anywhere there are sick and ailing people you will find a Healer. They are also the advanced entities who realize that even the laying on of hands is beneficial, because they are tubes by which God's energy flows through. If they cannot be in any of these fields then they are the midwives, the nurses, or anyone who cares for the sick, whether they are elderly or children. If there is no other avenue, Healers become ministers to the sick and dying and open houses for people who are poor or on drugs. Their whole thrust in their Theme is to care for anyone in need, especially in the physical sense. Religious orders have been founded especially to administer to the sick. The person with this Theme has a green aura around their hands that can be seen through Kirlian photography. By the very aura they carry, they have the ability to walk into a room and neutralize negative energy. The only danger they run into is that they can become too empathic. Healers must separate themselves from their own ego and realize that it is God's energy, not theirs, that heals, so they do not drain off or assimilate the illness they are trying to cure.
